Locals stunned as fleet of Rolls-Royces descends on historic rodeo
A fleet of Rolls-Royces worth millions of dollars have shocked locals of a small Wyoming town as they were paraded around a historic rodeo.
At least four of the ultra-luxury vehicles, including four Cullinans and a Spectre, were spotted cruising the snow-covered streets of the small town of Sheridan, according to the Cowboy State Daily.
The Rolls-Royces were sent in from across the country, including Los Angeles and Chicago, to make an appearance at the annual WYO Winter Rodeo.
The annual Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo is a yearly event the features championship skijoring, 'fat bike' and Nordic ski racing with the goal of boosting winter tourism in northeastern Wyoming.
Executive director of Sheridan County Travel and Tourism chief Shawn Parker orchestrated the surprising collaboration.
'They handled pretty well, from what I heard,' Parker told the outlet. 'We thought it was the perfect opportunity to showcase all the beautiful winter things to do here in Sheridan, and Rolls-Royce agreed.'
'Rolls - Royce has been in Sheridan a few times,' he added. 'I was speaking with their PR folks last year thinking that the rodeo would be a cool reason for them to come back out here with some cars and some media.'
A photo of the four cars parked in front of Black Tooth Brewing Co quickly went viral online. While some celebrated the rare sighting, other locals called out the spectacle, accusing the luxury cars' owners of being 'rich D-bags' and 'Democrats from Jackson.'
'Sweet! Exciting to see vehicles that about 95 percent of the population can't afford,' one user wrote sarcastically on Facebook.
'Do they offer a 4WD flatbed with gooseneck hookup in their lineup? Asking for a fiend,' another user joked.
Another user slammed the idea, stating that Sheridan must be hosting 'a rich Dbag convention,' while other accused the cars of being owned by 'drug lords hiding in Wyoming.'
One user joked, 'I bet they sell eggs,' making reference to rising inflation.
Local business owner Scott Stalick was shocked by the negative response after posting photos of the vehicles.
'Yeah, I was surprised by that. I thought it was a throwaway post,' Stalick told Cowboy State Daily. 'Those comments, I mean, they were brutal. To not even take into consideration these are high-quality, hand-built vehicles.'
'They were saying things like, 'Sheridan is Jackson lite,' 'go back to drug dealing' and stuff. I was a little bit surprised,' Stalick continued. 'A lot of people didn't take the time to see why they were here. The comments were absolutely startling.'
But Parker said the collaboration was ultimately a success for Sheridan.
'We had media from all over the country coming to Sheridan, writing stories to help us celebrate winter at a time of year when it's largely pretty quiet,' he told Cowboy State Daily. 'We were pretty happy to do this to help our local businesses during the rodeo.'
'All the feedback we've received is that everyone had a great time,' Parker said. 'We couldn't have asked for a more successful event.'
